Mixing Business with Pleasure

Laundry has always been an issue for us.  Back in our earliest days we simply didn't do it, even though we had a conveniently located washing machine.  (You remember that, Mom.)  When we rejected modern conveniences, we went through a variety of hand washing methods, mixed with occasional bouts of going to the laundromat.  Eventually we bought another washing machine, a wonderful front loader that was quite efficient with water.  However, not having running water, feeding it even the little bit it required could be challenging.  Also it did not like the electricity that came through the inverter for our solar electric system.  So, after many computer panel repairs, we gave up and sold it.  It was back to the laundromat once again!

But that is not the end of the story . . .
This summer we are returning to one of our favorite old methods of dealing with dirty clothes.  We figured that, if we are going to spend a minimum of an hour each day at the creek, we might as well make use of all that water (and some good old lye soap).  We are finding that our clothes are coming much cleaner than they have been in years!

We find that if we each spend about ten minutes (or less) scrubbing a few pieces of clothing we can keep up with our laundry needs.  When we are finished we lay the clothes out on the weeds to drain as much as possible before bringing it back up the hill.

Then we can just sit back and relax and enjoy the beauty of our surroundings and one another's company.

You are lucky to still have so much water in the creek. All I would need is a cheapy plastic(Oh, did I say plastic) chair and a fairly level area in the creek and I would be set.
